Credit Cards - Use Them Wisely [Credit Cards]
November 26, 2007, 17:16:07

Understanding how to use your credit card wisely can save you a lot of money over times. Banks usually request very high interest loans for cash loans. Besides the high interest rate, banks also impose stiff penalties for late payments. That is why it is not recommended to appeal to high interest rate loans to purchase ordinary products. It is not the case however with people who use their credit cards to pay small household items, their restaurant meals or other small payments. The main advantage of a credit card over a cash loan is that when you use your credit card to pay for things, you actually get an unsecured loan from the bank. The banking institution does not give away free money; instead, it allows you to buy the goods and services you require and it allows you to pay later.

You can take advantage of the way the banking system works and pay the balance in full each payment cycle. In this way, you will use the bank’s money interest free for about a month.

Be advised though, if you do not pat the bill in full each month and you continue to pay for things and services, you will end up being choked by interest payments. Not only will financial status will suffer from this, but also your credit ranking.

Using credit cards offers many advantages. It is also a very convenient way to purchase the necessary things. You do not have to carry around multiple IDs, you do not have to stuff your pockets and wallets with large amount of cash, you can keep track of your purchases and you do not have to worry anymore to have the exact change. Some businesses now are focusing more on using credit cards rather than cash: and it is near impossible to buy an airline ticket, to rent a car or to ship an overnight package using cash. If you are looking to get your credit jump started you may also want to check into prepaid credit cards or some other type of a secured credit card.

Banks use powerful and efficient marketing schemes to make you believe that having a credit card grants you a special social status or gives you a ticket to freedom. Before you gat a credit card, check with all the major banks in your area to find the best deal. Think of credit as a commodity and just like buying commodities, search for the beast deal.

Read carefully the terms and conditions before signing up for a credit card. Be careful as some banks may ask for an annual fee for giving you the credit card. If you find such a condition in the contract, do the best thing possible: go to another bank and check their various credit card offers. You should be crazy to give them money before issuing a card. Serious banks usually do not ask for such a fee and you can use that money to buy something you really need. Another thing you should check for is the APR, the annual percentage rate. The APR represents the cost of the credit shown as a yearly rate. If the bank does not want to disclose this information, go to another institution. Also be careful because some banks offer you at first a low rate, which climbs rapidly after some months.
